Exhibiting Avery (2025) is a Comedy short playing with trying to control how others perceive your body and playing with that on a comedically absurd level with a young woman who becomes a living statue. Over the course of the film, the lines between reality and performance blur.
Avery, a young woman struggling to define herself outside of how others see her, stumbles into an unexpected form of expression: becoming a living statue. What begins as a spiritual experie, an escape from the weight of expectations, eventually becomes a confrontation with herself and the perceptions of others.
Exhibiting Avery explores the tension between control and perception. With a transgender filmmaker, Exhibiting Avery reflects the experience of shaping identity on one’s own terms, while also exploring womanhood and the (more) broader human desire to control how we are seen. Especially in today’s world, finding something light and hopeful amidst uncertainty is more important than ever.
Film festivals cost money! Submission fees add up fast, and we want Exhibiting Avery to have the best shot at reaching audiences, industry professionals, and fellow filmmakers. Your support helps us cover these costs and gives our film the chance to be seen, celebrated, and maybe even awarded. Every dollar gets us closer to bringing Exhibiting Avery to the world—thank you for being part of this journey!
